The Buzz: QuarkXPress 7 Launch Event, 23 May 2006

According to [1] The Mac Observer (citing Design Tools Monthly), Quark, Inc is slated to fete XPress 7 with an invitation-only launch party in New York on 23 May 2006.
Whether or not the product will actually start shipping on the 23rd is still an open question; if it doesn’t, it’s specluated that actual product release will be very soon to follow.

I read an article about their new preflight features within the application. I used PasteBoard and FlightCheck Professional from Markzware for over 7 years now. I think they have a patent on their product. I hate to see Quark and Adobe ripping off other company patent. Adobe In-Design has preflight build-in but its so lame. I still use FlightCheck Professional, it save my life so many time and I will continue to stick with it.

Call me crazy, but I am looking forward to the Quark event. I’ve donwloaded and used Quark 7 beta 1 and 2, and I am really impressed with the quality of the program, especially on the Mac platform. I’ve used the software on Windows XP and Mac OS X. I tried both InDesign CS and QuarkXPress 7 and I feel that Quark has the upper-hand for my work. I can run QuarkXPress 7 beta 2 just fine on my iBook G3 with 768MB RAM. Try that with InDesign CS2 and you won’t get past the installation program since it requires a G4 processor, and is WAY too slow for me. The text quality of InDesign CS is excellent, but I need layout speed. Quark delivers.
