Press Release:
Aarhus, Denmark–(Stibocatalog.com)–September 8 2005–Stibo Catalog announced today the commercial availability of STEP 4.7 - the next generation of its product content management and publishing solution for product- and catalog-centric businesses.
STEP 4.7 includes support for Adobe® InDesign™ CS2 for both Macintosh and PC. Marketing professionals can now publish promotions directly from STEP’s product information management (PIM) module, which means they have greater creative design control. The intuitive plug-in allows InDesign users access to STEP via a native palette. STEP takes advantage of some of InDesign’s advanced features including layers for version publishing and multi-lingual publishing.
Simon Walker, STEP Product Manager commented: ”Our customers are used to being able to publish fast and reliably using the STEP Publication Manager. We have added enhanced creative control for catalog professionals with our plug-in for Adobe InDesign, which allows users to publish from STEP PIM. STEP is providing additional benefits for mail order businesses as well as marketers who are looking to supplement catalogs with creative smaller promotions.”

I chose a different text for the intro level cpeoutmr graphics class I am teaching. I picked up this one as well but did not require my students to purchase it. I am finding that this would have been a better choice. The illustrations/screenshots are huge and easy to understand. The step by step instructions for learning software skills are superb, and the explanations of fundamental design concepts are strong. The choices Macario makes for real-world design examples are much better than in other books I’ve seen. I also enjoy her candid sense of humor. This will be a great text for one of my future intro classes. It would also be a good book for someone who is learning the skills on their own.
