With the standardization of PDFs for electronic document archival and distribution, for press and pre-press workflows, and, especially, as a means of proofing clients, came the need to store and transport PDFs. In any PDF storage or tranportation scenario file size is an issue; the smaller the PDF, the faster it will reach its intended audience.

PDF compression doesn’t end with Distiller or the Adobe PDF virtual printer. PDF Optimizer, standard with Acrobat since version 5, can tell you where can turn a multiple megabyte PDF into just a few hundred kilobytes. In Acrobat 7 Professional, PDF Optimizer has gotten even better, as Mac Design Magazine shows.
